Sampha – Process

For me, this wasn’t even up for debate. This is the best album of the year so far in my opinion and there are quite a few reasons why. The Londoner has produced stellar work before with Kanye, Drake, Solange, Jessie Ware and SBTRKT, but back in early February, he dropped his debut album Process.
It was a bold, experimental collection of electronic music, soul, and R&B. I’d only really cared for Sampha when featuring in other peoples’ work but to receive a 40-minute, 10 track album from him, and ONLY him, was a sensational taste of what he can do when focused and driven to succeed as a solo beast. A man of all trades, his vocals are silky, crisp and powerful all at once.
In terms of standouts, I’d say “Plastic 100 Degrees,” “Blood On Me” “No One Knows Me Like the Piano,” “Reverse Faults” and “Under” are the ones which immediately caught me the most, but honestly every song on the album is fantastic at what it is. I love this album and I’ll undoubtedly listen throughout the rest of 2017.
