Best 7 Anderson .Paak Features of 2016

Brandon Paak Anderson showed flashes of brilliance and exhibited a strong work ethic in the years leading up to his breakout 2015 campaign. I, like many other music fanatics, became formally introduced to .Paak with his show stealing efforts on Compton: A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre. He exuded a novel sound and unique style that captivated me immediately. To be completely honest, at first, I thought he would be just another artist that made amazing contributions to a quality project, only to never be heard from again. Upon further spins of Compton, my asinine assumption was quickly dismissed and I proceeded to sift through the various tracks and projects that were compiled on SoundCloud and other streaming outlets.

That was August 2015.

One glorious morning in January 2016, I received a push notification from Spotify indicating that Malibu was now available. I was expecting it to be a song; but much to my delight, a full-length project was on the other side of that pressed notification. So began the year of Anderson .Paak.

Having released 2 incredible studio albums amongst an abundance of high-quality features, Anderson .Paak fully launched himself into the stratosphere of superstardom. My personal choice as MVP in the world of music, for any genre, for 2016. .Paak is a tesselation of genres; he seamlessly incorporates hip-hop, funk, jazz, soul, RnB, and rock in a high-quality fashion. Let’s appreciate some of his best features from 2016. Cheers to your well deserved recognition and praise. I’m hoping that Anderson doesn’t take his foot off the gas pedal for 2017.

I compiled the features from this list that were available on YouTube in a convenient location for your listening pleasure. Check out this mini-playlist right here. For Apple Music users, check out this same playlist of songs right here.

I should be flyin’ home without a care
My baby don’t want no toys, she want me there
I trade the noise for a piece of divine
I savor my coins for a piece of the land
Something to pass while I’m passin’ my prime
My word in the cards, full deck in my hand
As sure as the smog is pollutin’ the land
Be what you wanna be as long as you get the money right – from Blank Face

A Tribe Called Quest – Movin’ Backwards (feat. Anderson .Paak)

They wanna see my downfall
Turn a good day into a downpour
Thorns in the crown hit the cross I bear
Why they wanna see me hangin’ like a towel somewhere

One eye, two bills, three tears, a heart still
How I’m feelin’ in my mind right here
Think I’m moving, I ain’t going nowhere, nowhere
Maybe why I feel lost, yeah
How I’m ‘posed to know how home feels?
I ain’t even on my home field
And again I feel lost
